Ocean

Gráinne Smith

The sea sings slow seductive songs.
I ache with longing
to sleep, rocked by a gentle ocean,
carried beyond the toil of everyday,
to go, a girl again with careless feet, beyond,
beyond the choices gravely laid,
to find a warm and sleepy shore
to stroke and soothe, hold,
safe secure, that known affairs
will drift and pass, will drift and pass
to safe deliverance.

The sea sings slow seductive songs
and I ache.
